FTGate Technology and the Environment
In today’s global economy, many corporations are doing an increasing amount of business abroad, often at the expense of the environment. In the past several years we have seen corporations leaving behind trails of destruction all over the world in the form of the growth of the ozone layer, the decline in world forests and the poisoning of our air, seas and soil.
At FTGate Technology, we prefer to use innovative strategies to “do our bit” towards solving the problem. The development of the Internet means that many business transactions can be done “virtually” online, and your FTGate mail server is one example. From downloading the software from our web site through to purchasing and registering online, our software can be supplied to you in an entirely virtual environment.
“Our bit” for the Environment:
No CDROM Boxed sets please !
For the last 7 years we have steadfastly refused to produce CDROM boxed sets. We saw it as entirely pointless because customers could download our software from our web site, try it, and then register it online if they like it. All our products contain a quick-start guide and a fully integrated online help, and so CDROM versions in boxes are unnecessary.
Doing everything online means we don’t have to pollute the atmosphere with fumes from delivery vans who deliver boxed sets to you, and it means that we don’t have to cut down trees to provide you with boxes that you are going to throw in the bin anyway.
No printed manual.
Based on customer feedback, all documentation is being provided to you in electronic format. This means that the information you need is always at your fingertips, whether you are in the office or travelling to a client. Our easy to use online help is a highly efficient way of ensuring that you can speedily access the relevant information you need with the minimum of effort.
Our online help is also an environmentally friendly way to provide a lot of information. To provide the online help in printed format produce a manual of around 1000 pages, which would mean cutting down trees! It takes approximately six mature trees to make a tonne of paper, which would then go to make our manuals. Neither customers, nor ourselves, want this!
If you feel you really need a printed manual, there is a PDF version available from support@ftgate.com that and you can print this yourself if you wish.
Teleworking
We operate a teleworking system for our employees. The internet revolution means that support and development of FTGate products does not necessarily have to take place in a central office all of the time. For selected days, staff can work from home, whilst still keeping in constant communication with each other via the internet and teleconferencing, thus cutting down on fuel costs and pollution.
Recycling
Of course our office operates an environmentally friendly policy, and operates a recycling policy where possible. Paperwork is kept to a minimum because all information is kept online on a secure server. What waste paper we generate, we recycle where possible.
